The 15th July, 2019 will see a brand new cohort of international doctors begin our next intensive courses. You can choose either 3 or 6 week preparation of OET for Doctors preparation. We have extracted and bottled the elements of our tried and tested OET Refresh 2.0 course. We’ve mixed this with the elements of our intensive OET Revision 2.0 course and created the perfect OET Remedy 2.0. Training in groups of maximum six doctors, our medics will study all four modules of the exam including: OET Listening; Reading; Speaking and Writing. Changes to the NMC OSCE

Last Wednesday saw the very first group of international nurses face the new NMC OSCE scenarios. The scenarios centred mainly on areas of nursing that had been previously un-assessed and tensions were high with nurses wondering, ‘what will the examiners be looking for?’ … ‘am I prepared enough?’ …’what if I say the wrong thing?’ 

Somebody had to go first in the exam and our nurses drew the straws.

As always, however, the IELTS Medical London Nurse Education Team – led by Lead OSCE Trainer and Senior UK Registered Nurse Claire – were ready for the changes. Our nurses received regular briefings, as well as information about what to look out for. We gave our nurses tips on how to deal with the new dimension to nursing added by the NMC from the 24th June.

★ ★ Well done OET Doctors and OET Nurses – we salute you ★ ★

So the June OET results were earlier than expected and released today. We know this, because our phones and Whatsapp messages rang with glee at some phenomenal scores.

12 hours a day and 5 days a week

One nurse in particular was an absolute joy to assist. Nurse L came into the centre one evening looking for a solution. Having qualified in Italy, the OET was the only thing between her and practicing as a nurse in one of the best Children’s hospitals in the country. She knew that passing the OET was something that she wanted. She also knew, however, that her healthcare assistant job required her 12 hours a day and 5 days each week. If she was going to do this and do this quickly, she needed an OET course provider that was equipped to deliver flexible courses.

Flexing across 33 days?

Nurse L received her schedule from the hospital a month in advance, meaning that when she enrolled, she was able to provide the dates and times of the 10 OET Flex Sessions she required. A benchmarking exercise during her first session highlighted OET writing as the only area she needed to concentrate her tuition efforts on and she chose the OET Flex Course to support this. The OET Flex course allows you to purchase 10; 20 or 30 sessions in advance and to select any vacant sessions between 10:00 am – 9:15 pm during the week or 10:00 – 17:00 on weekends. Nurse L spaced her course out across the month of May and then attended a single revision session one week before the exam.

The result

Rather predictably, Nurse L achieved B-B-B-B across all 4 skills on her first attempt.

Summer Surprises!

This afternoon we decided to surprise our medics with a slight detour. A change of scene from the standard #OET Speaking class. We headed to a destination that was just minutes away our centre in Marylebone. Our medics were pleasantly surprised as their car pulled up outside #Bloomsbury Bowl for an afternoon full of bowling, pizza and fun!

Between the banter, high fives, eating and congratulations our close knit cohort created memories that we hope will last with them beyond the Summer.

As an aside, to all of you – from your Team at IELTS Medical – it really has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and we wish you success in the OET and in your futures.

OET Revision Crash Course before 31st August Exams @ 10:00 – 12:45 from Monday 26th – Friday 30th August.

The OET Revision Course is BACK. If you’ve taken a break from your OET revision or need that additional boost before the big day, it’s a great way for you to reassure yourself that you’re ready to pass your OET examination.

Planned at our Central London – Marylebone branch – the course is easily accessible by almost any mode of transport (eg. a mere five minute walk from Marble Arch and ten from Baker Street).

As you would expect, the course covers all of the fundamentals you need to pass the OET and to do so well. It is engineered in such a way that equal time is devoted to each part of the exam, ensuring full understanding and feedback. Courses here are taught by OET trained native UK tutors and revision coursebooks are provided at the start of the course so that you can follow the instructor and practice at home. You will also receive access to our Virtual Learning Environment (or VLE) at learn.ieltsmedical.org so that you can practice OET exam type questions against the clock.  Full and detailed solutions are provided during the contact hours along with explanations from our staff of well trained instructors.

Revising in groups is a rewarding experience. You can reach out to new OET speaking partners and you can rest assured that the other healthcare professionals on the course are just as motivated as you are. Such a refreshing boost, right before the real examination, is a great idea to supplement your extensive investment in your OET studies.
